Natural

Unposed photos that capture the raw moments exactly as they play out, with a handful of traditional portraits and group photos thrown in. Authentic moments are the most honest way for me to tell your story, a story that you can cherish for a lifetime.

Fun

A relaxed, unobtrusive shooting style helps me to capture natural smiles, tears of joy, laughter, playfulness, love, and all those candid moments that happen throughout your wedding day.

Colourful

A sharp, deep-contrast editing style that’s full of rich colours and textures. Natural skin tones with an emphasis on warm earthy brown tones: It’s the opposite of airy and light! I also love black and white photos, so I usually incorperate a handful into my delivered galleries.

Stories

Memories fade, but photographs will last a lifetime. Relive your wedding memories for years to come with beautifully documented images that represent true moments from your big day.

Authentic wedding stories captured as photographic memories that you will cherish forever

My goal is to capture all the natural moments from your wedding day. For me, personally, I don’t want to pull you away from your big day to host a styled photoshoot, I would much rather take just a few minutes of your time so that you have a handful of nice, natural portraits to look back on. You (hopefully) only get married once, so please use the day to spend time with your family and loved ones and let me run around like a madman snapping all the beautiful, funny, and tearful moments that you might have missed on your day. If you are looking for a photographer who will build a beautifully documented story from your wedding day captured through a lens, then I’m your man!

I’m very easy-going and love to be social with you and all your wedding guests to make everyone feel comfortable. I’m completely non-judgemental and welcome all types of religious or civil ceremony, including LGBTQ+ events, to photograph. I’m based in Harwich, on the Essex/Suffolk border, but I cover weddings and elopements all across the UK and destination weddings worldwide! I'm camera-shy, you're camera-shy; we're the perfect match. My calendar is open for 2024, 2025, & 2026 bookings.

Thank you for checking out my website and I hope we can make some beautiful photographic memories together.

Add-Ons & Extras

  • Join me for a 1 hour engagement photoshoot so that you can have some photos for your wedding invites / save-the-date cards. Prices start at £110* for a shoot local to me in picturesque Harwich. Why not opt for a shoot on our blue flag beach with the famous Harwich lighthouses in the background, a local open field, or a beautiful walk through Wrabness woods. Travel more than 15 miles from CO12 is extra.

*£110 when included as part of your wedding photography package, or you are an existing client. £150 if booked on its own.

  • Similar to prints, you can buy wedding albums from many online retailers for under £100, but please be aware of the quality differences between these and those issued by professional photographers; most professional print stores will not even allow you to access their store unless you are a working photographer. My wedding album add-on includes: my design time, a handcrafted luxury wedding album, a gift box, and a personalised USB stick containing all your wedding photos. Prices start at £395 for a 30 page 10x10” album. Save 50% off a duplicate album, or add 5 miniature 4.25x4.25” albums for just £90.

  • The digital gallery lets you order photo prints directly, without any need for backwards and forwards communication. Now that the stress of your wedding day is done, you can finally relax, scroll through the album on your mobile whilst enjoying your honeymoon, and order prints at the same time! Simply select the photos you want printed, add them to basket, select a payment method, and it goes straight off to the print lab who will fulfil your order directly. Various print options are available, including: small prints, large format prints, photo albums, canvas prints, and even prints onto stunning birch wood! Most prints are shipped within 1-2 business days, but custom items like wooden prints and albums will take slightly longer.

    Prints start at just £2.50pp.

“I can get prints developed at Snapfish or Boots much cheaper!” I use one of the best print labs in the UK, which uses the highest quality paper that will last a lifetime. Cheap prints from Snapfish (or similar) will look cheap as they are often low quality printers, low quality paper, over-saturated, and not colour corrected properly; they also have a habbit of fading pretty quickly which isn’t ideal for what should be some of your most precious memories (hopefully!). Your wedding day is a special event to remember; it’s worth the small extra investment to have the best quality printed photos to treasure forever, plus the wall-art options (like the wooden picture) are a sure way to wow any guests that visit your home. There is absolutely no pressure to order prints from me; I just want you to be aware of the differences in print quality on the market.

  • These beautiful print boxes are ideal for storing your treasured 6x4" photos from your wedding day. This is a great budget alternative (or addition) to a formal wedding album but it is limited to those two print sizes. Choose from various material and colour options to suit your wedding theme, and order alongside your prints from the online gallery. Prices are £55 for just the box, or £380 to include 300 6x4” prints.

Next Steps

1.

Get in touch by using my enquiry form on my contact page. Make sure to provide a venue location and date so that I can check my availability; the more details the better! I will respond within 48 hours and usually within the same day. It’s really common for responses to go into spam or junk folders, so please keep an eye out there as well.

2.

As long as I am available and have all your details, I will be in touch with a formal quote specific to your wedding day. There will also be some optional extras on there so have a good read through the options, tick which ones you would like, and hit the “accept” button on the quotation. There is no commitment from you at this stage to proceed, this just sends me your selected options so I can draft your contract and payment details for your booking fee.

3.

Once I have received your signed contract and booking fee, that’s you booked in! On completion of the booking process, I will let you know next steps. I’ll also send out your welcome pack with a copy of your contract so you have it all in one convenient place. Remember, I’m more than happy to catch up at any time; I’m just a mesage away.

To secure your date, I require a non-refundable booking fee which is 20% of your total selected package. The remaining balance is due 30 days before your wedding day.

Average Wedding Photography Prices

How much does it cost to hire a wedding photographer in the UK?

The average cost for a wedding photographer in the UK was £1,820 in 2022. There are so many factors that go into pricing for wedding photography. Firstly, on average, a recent survey suggested photographers spend just 48% of their time actually photographing the wedding event itself; the other 52% is a combination of photo editing (the most time consuming part), communication with the couple before and after the wedding, communication with other staff members and venues, general admininstration tasks, and more. Different photographers will have different operating costs, and the location of the photographer also makes a difference to price. Most couples aim to spend at least 5% of their total wedding budget on a photographer for your big day, but some people push this to 10% or even 15%, if having perfect wedding photos is high on your priority list.

There are photographers available for any budget and every location but there are usually reasons that people are more/less expensive. Someone who prices very cheap may be an attractive option to save money, but it’s at the risk of cheaper equipment, no backup equipment, the inability to work at wedding paces, and lack of editing knowledge. Someone charging on the higher end of the scale should have plenty of experience behind them and be using the best gear possible; and of course there is the middle ground which hosts a variety of prices and styles. It’s important that you find someone whos style you like and that you can trust, but it’s also important this falls within your budget. If you are looking to save on costs for your wedding day but still want that all-important photo quality, why not opt for a photography package that just covers part of the day.

FAQs

Do you do posed couple and group portraits?

I am happy to spend a small amount of time taking some couples and group portraits, but I prefer these to be in a natural environment without too much direction from me. Because my focus is so much on documentary-style shooting, it just looks a bit odd to have these really posed images next to it… Plus, you can easily lose 2 hours from your wedding day doing this (trust me, I’ve been a guest at a wedding where the portraits took over 3 hours and it completely ruined the flow of the day). My goal for portraits is to capture one photo which includes everyone who attended the wedding, a handful of natural bride and groom portraits, and a handful of close family, bridal party, and groomsmen. Sometimes I will direct people a little to make sure they’re not looking in the wrong direction etc. but I want it to feel and look natural!

Do you do black & white photos?

I love black and white photos but in small doses. I photograph everything in full colour raw format which allows me to edit them in any way I see fit once that process begins. I will edit the photos in a way that suits the day and at that point select black and white options for photos. If you want more or less black and white photos then please just let me know during our discussions. The benefit of shooting in colour and converting is that I can always provide both b&w and colour alternatives.

What equipment do you use?

I use a combination of two Canon R6 digital mirrorless cameras and a vintage Olympus OM10 analogue film camera. The Canon R6 cameras have dual memory card slots which I set to record to both. This means that your photos are recorded onto two drives at the point of capture, so there is always a backup. I use various L series lenses including a 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom lens, 24-70mm f/2.8 zoom lens, 50mm f/1.2 prime lens, 85mm f/1.2 prime lens, and a 100mm f/2.8 macro prime lens. I tend to opt for Kodak Portra 400/800 or Kadak Gold 200 film for the analogue film camera depending on the theme.

How many images should I expect?

This will depend on the length of the wedding day, the amount of guests, and actual number of things that are photographable. For a full day, I would expect to be delivering you 400+ fully edited photos, but it’s important to note that I do not guarantee a specific minimum number of photos. I won’t add in bad photos for the sake of bulking up numbers, I would much rather only deliver you the absolute best photos from the day. Having said that, I usually deliver way over the expected numbers listed within my packages. The images are all delivered via a personalised online gallery completely watermark-free!

How long after the wedding will the photos be ready?

You will receive a 5-15 edited image “sneak-peak” within 24-48 hours of finishing your wedding (except for the essentials package). I love providing my couples with a handful of photos from the big day as soon after as possible so you can be even more excited to receive the rest of the photos. I always guarantee the full edited album will be with you no later than 45 days after the wedding date but I usually deliver much earlier than this. I am the sort of person who must finish something once they get started, so it’s not uncommon for me to deliver within a week or two... The editing process from a full wedding day usually takes me around 14-25 hours, so it depends on my current work schedule and availablitiy as to when I can fit this in.

Do I have the rights to the images?

You have what is essentially an unlimited royalty-free non-commercial use of the images. Lots of big words, I know! In plain terms, it means you can share them online and print them until your heart is content and will never pay anything more to do so. The only limitation is that you are not allowed to sell the images onto a third party, as the actual image copyright will always remain with the person who took the photo (me, in this case). For example, if a bridal magazine wanted to use them on, they would need to contact me to obtain a license to publish the image commercially. If your other suppliers (such as your make-up artist or florist) would like to use my images, they will also need to obtain permission from me so I can send them the limitations of use.

Can we meet in person or chat?

I would always welcome meeting up or chatting online before booking any photographer. You have to make sure you are booking not just the right photography style, but also the right attitude and personality for your wedding. I am located in Harwich, Essex. If you live nearby we can meet in person, alternatively we can arrange an online meeting on zoom, google, etc. My camera-shy couples tend to prefer a whatsapp call these days!

Can I see your wedding contract?

Of course. I don’t have a copy on my website because it gets updated periodically so please send an email to joshwhitephotouk@gmail.com and ask to see a draft copy. The contract covers all the terms and conditions so you will know exactly what to expect from me.
